Nice, job! Very clean...
don't be afraid to use that eraser on some of the areas you don't want.
experiment with curves etc.
also for the black background do some layers over top of it (transparent) lasso an odd shaped spot fill with color yellow and gassiaun blur around 20% to say 35% that I like to use a lot blue and pink work well also.
just make sure you have each highlight on separate layers under your fractal before you flatten.
